Lost In
Louisville

3.4.2003

Yeah, so it's been a while. Here's a quick overview of the few interesting tid bits from the past couple of weeks:

1. Went down to the 3rd St. Cafe in Old Louisville because someone who works there offered free drinks. She wasn't there when I arrived, but they had a gentleman named Prince something performing in the dining room. He was absolutely fantastic. It was just him with a synthesizer up there on the stage and he was amazing. He did everything from BB King to Billy Ocean and did it with a style and enthusiasm rare in most solo performances in little restaurants in Old Louisville. I went back a few days later and got my free drinks (thanks a million Chris), but it just wasn't the same without the Prince.

2. I managed to get some money back from Ford for repairs done on my car. Apparently enough people bitched, and they decided to head it off at the pass. They sent me a letter telling me that they had extended my warranty by 2 years or 24,000 miles. But only on this one little part. To my pleasant surprise, I had already paid about $200 to have that very part fixed, so I get a little money back. Sweet revenge.

3. Ben and I went Geocaching this weekend. I was previously unfamiliar with the concept, but to put it simply, it's like a treasure hunt using a GPS receiver. We hit several spots around town and it was a very good time. The outing took me to old stomping grounds, like Farnsley and Pee Wee parks and to new places I'd driven by but never noticed, like Brown park in St Matthews where we encountered a herd of unruly ducks. I have pictures here.

4. The local public radio stations are having their twice-yearly pledge drive. The Bluegrass Anonymous folks volunteered to go work the phones during Berk Bryant's Sunday Bluegrass show. We headed down for a three hour shift, and were treated like kings. We had free drinks, free (amazingly delicious) food from Morton's and they even let us have our pick of a bunch of spare CD singles. But things got weird quick. The first call I took was from an older gentleman who mumbled. I could barely hear what he said when he told me his name. He asked with whom he was speaking, and I told him. Then he said something that completely threw me. He says: "Ohh, I know who you are. You may not remember but we had an argument on the Internet a while back." I didn't know how to reply to that. So I kept going, filling-out the form to take his pledge. Each person who pledges gets their name read on the air, and apparently when he mumbled his name, I got it wrong. Because he called back soon thereafter to correct us. When he said his actual name I finally remembered him. But needless to say I was a little reluctant to tell people my name after that. Who knows how many people I've argued with would be calling in?
